Exe Clubs unite for Exe Regatta

Although very different in size, boat fleets and cultures, 4 of the sailing clubs based along the Exe estuary are united in their passion for sailing, culminating in the Exe Regatta every summer. Having started as a way of getting the clubs to share resources and race together, the Exe Regatta is now poised to become one of the biggest Regattas in the South West. With many world-class sailors from the South West, it’s crucial to provide keenly competitive racing for local sailors to take part in and to keep the youth development programmes going.

2023 sees Exmouth Rowing Club join the fun for both Regatta weekends – a significant development as 2023 is the clubs 30th centenary.

2023 once again sees Tozers Solicitors, Exe Sails & Canvas and Wilkinson Grant Estate Agents, supporting the Regatta again as Gold sponsors. We are also pleased to welcome Exmouth Marina this year as Silver Sponsors. Without the support of all our sponsors we could not run these events and we are indebted to them for their support.

Money raised by the Regatta helps the participating clubs to invest in sailing training and safety courses and fund training programmes for younger sailors. Because of the large number of members in the four participating clubs – around 3000 people – sponsors do get good exposure. Anyone can learn to sail and it’s not an expensive sport to get started in since all the sailing clubs offer the use of club boats and provide sailing sessions with safety boat cover. There are always people willing to help beginners!

This year the Exe Regatta runs over two weekends and includes races for dinghies, multi-hulls & cruisers The sailing programme is designed to give an opportunity to everyone to get on the water including younger sailors and those less experienced. Although we do have some fiercely competitive sailors in our midst, we don’t want to exclude others who just want to enjoy the experience.

This year the Regatta is held over two weekends. On Saturday & Sunday 1st / 2nd July there is a Fishing Competition organised by Starcross Fishing & Cruising Club along with Exmouth Beach Rescue Club holding competitions on the beach.
